Freshly Made Tofu and Baked Bread: Experience a Unique Japanese Taste at Muji Ginza

MUJI, famous for their minimalist everyday goods, is bringing their unique style to the table. Open since April 2019, MUJI GINZA features restaurants that focus on Japanese ingredients and handmade tofu, and a bakery that sells freshly made bread. Come join DiGJAPAN! and discover the ‘Japanese taste'.

When they hear 'Muji' many people think of daily goods and stationery, however this new Ginza location is much more than that.

The store reaches out to every part of life across its 11 story building (10 floors plus a basement floor). The goal is to promote a ‘feeling of good living’ with all the necessities of life.

Starting from the basement we have the restaurant ‘Muji Diner’. The first floor is dedicated to food. From the second to the fifth floor you can explore all the Muji products that we know and love. There are a lot of limited edition items you can’t find anywhere else like cloth embroidery services and customized aromas. Finally, on the 6th floor to the 10th is the hotel. Read more about that here!

Every day from 7:30 a.m. let the aroma of freshly baked bread draw you in. Their bakery is right near the entrance and can get your day started with a nice organic coffee served hot or cold. Along with the fresh bread it’s the perfect breakfast.

When they say fresh, they mean it. The bread is not brought from a factory but baked right here in Ginza each morning. Japanese flour and seasonal ingredients are used to bring the MUJI experience to your breakfast.

You can enjoy not only bread but the recently popular fruit sandwiches too!

Walking down the stairs to the basement floor, you’ll immediately spot fresh fish, meat, and vegetables. Muji has taken great care in their selection of ingredients. Among others are vegetables from farmers in Chiba, fish from the Odawara Fishing Port, herb beef from Miyazaki, and Agu pork from Okinawa.

MUJI Diner also features a tofu workshop. Using carefully selected soybeans, the tofu is made using the traditional technique of the Miyako Islands in Okinawa. This is something you can’t miss. With a rich and powerful taste it will give you a new image of tofu.

You can enjoy grilled fish delivered directly from the Odawara fishing port with the fish meal set.

Grilled Miyazaki herb beef Sirloin is also on the menu. Miyazaki cows are fed a herb-rich diet. Rated A4 and higher on the Japanese beef scale. It is very soft and juicy.

You can also sample a regional cuisine from Oita, Ryukyu-don. It's fish from the Odawara Fishing Port pickled in a sesame sauce and served on top of a bowl of rice.

The attention to detail is not only in the food but the interior as well. Cans of seasoning, red bricks, wooden boards really set the mood.
