Don Quijote, which offers everything from groceries to pharmaceuticals, miscellaneous goods, and home appliances, has just opened a new store at a prime location, about a 2-minute walk from the Southeast Exit of Shinjuku Station in Tokyo. This store is a perfect place for finding Japanese souvenirs, as it stocks more than 70% of items popular with foreign tourists.
Let's go inside the store.
Immediately at the entrance, there is a limited-time sake tasting corner. It is nice to be able to casually try Japanese sake here. Of course, if you find a drink you like, you can also buy it. Although this event is temporary, there are plans to hold other fun activities such as tastings and live demonstrations in the future.
Across from the tasting corner, there is a highly popular baked sweet potato section, which reportedly sells 12.3 million units annually. When we visited, the sweet potatoes were just coming out of the oven, and a fragrant aroma was drifting through the air. The baked sweet potatoes made from Beniharuka sweet potatoes from Ibaraki Prefecture are juicy and have a sticky texture.
Once you pass the baked sweet potato section, you will find gummy candies, candies, and other inexpensive, easy-to-purchase items on display. The popular Cororo gummies are also available in Shine Muscat, Kyoho grape, and Shimizu White Peach flavors.
