- Nagoya Castle
The shachihokos that sit shining atop the castle roof are well-known as a symbol of Nagoya.
This castle was built in 1612. Much of it was lost to fires in battle, but was later restored. The imaginary "shachihokos" (a mythological creature) often seen on the roofs of castles decorate this one as well, but are known as "golden dolphins" because of their golden coloring and are recognized across Japan.
