Kamigamo Shrine

上賀茂神社

 

 

One of the oldest shrines in Kyoto, this is the home of the Aoi Festival.

A god that watches over the city is enshrined here and the grounds are home to approximately 60 buildings, including the main shrine which is a national treasure. The temple draws visitors looking to ward off bad luck, and because the god of electrical industry is enshrined here.

HOURS Always open (entrance beyond second gate from 5:30am-5:00pm)
