- Tori-no-Ichi Fair
This annual event is held at a Shinjuku shrine. You can purchase a kumade - known to bring good luck to merchants - at the kumade fair.
A market featuring good-luck charms, such as decorated rakes, is held to promote good luck and success in business. The Tori-no-Ichi festivals have ties to Yamato-Takeruno-Mikoto, a deity enshrined at the Otori Shrine in Shinjuku, and have been held since the Meiji period. Numerous stalls selling rakes line the yard of the shrine, which is well-known for the show-booth performances that are held during this time.
