Ujigami Shrine

The inner shrine here is Japan's oldest remaining specimen of Shinto architecture.

This shrine stands on the opposite shore of the Uji River across from Byodo-in Temple's Phoenix Hall. The main temple was built in the 11th or 12th century and is thought to be Japan's oldest remaining example of Shinto architecture.
