- Todai-ji Temple
The overwhelmingly massive Buddha statue here is a symbol of Nara.
This temple is home to numerous structures, including the Great Buddha Hall, which is one of the largest wooden structures in the world, and the Great South Gate, where a pair of fearsome Buddhist statues stand. The temple was built in the 8th century to mourn the passing of the Crown Prince at the time.
