Hokke-ji Temple

法華寺

A fine statue of Kannon with a characteristic water lily on her back is enshrined here.

Built in the 8th century, this temple brought together nunneries across Japan. The temple's treasured Juichimen Kannon is a National Treasure. It is said that the statue is modeled after the Empress who had the temple built, and the statue is very feminine with a characteristic water lily on its back.
