Horyu-ji Temple

This collection of the oldest wooden buildings in the world gives visitors a taste of the 7th century.

The temple grounds here are home to a five-story pagoda and the Golden Pavilion, both of which are National Treasures. There are also numerous other must-see National Treasures, including a collection of Buddhist statues that will give visitors a sense of the blossoming Buddhist culture that birthed them.
