STORY
May the force be with you--
and your lunch!
Specializing in plastic figures and models, Kotobukiya’s store in Akihabara stocks a variety of Star Wars-themed kitchen and lunch goods. If you or someone you know is a die-hard fan of the series, then these are the souvenirs you've been looking for (the droids are another story...)
Pouch sandwiches are a good idea when you think about it. You’ll never have to worry about the fillings slipping out of the bread in transit or while eating. Kotobukiya has taken the pouch sandwich from good to great with these Star Wars designs. Just layer your favorite sandwich filling between two pieces of bread, place the sandwich inside the mold, and press! For added realism to a sweet sandwich like PB&J, you can use the stencil to sprinkle cocoa powder on top to make some shadows.
Japan has become internet-famous for the amount of artistry some of its citizens use when crafting their lunch boxes. If your lunch making skills aren’t quite at that level but you still want to add some Star Wars flair to your meal, use these silicone cups and dividers in your bento. Now try to resist humming the Star Wars theme as you open your lunch.
Now that you know you can have a hard boiled egg shaped like Darth Vader’s head, you’ll wonder how you’ve managed to get along without it for so long. Here’s how it works: put a peeled boiled egg into the mold while it’s still warm and close the mold. Place the closed mold in some ice water. Remove the mold from the water after about ten minutes, open, and you’re all set to enjoy.
These durable silicone molds do double duty in the kitchen. They can be used as both ice cube trays as well as cake molds.* These molds come in the shape of Darth Vader, R2-D2, and the Millennium Falcon. And then there’s poor Han Solo frozen in carbonite (pictured center).
* Please note that silicone molds can be used for baking up to 230℃/ 445°F.
Why eat with regular chopsticks when you can use lightsabers instead? Join the dark side by choosing Darth Vader's red lightsabers or fight with the Rebel Alliance with Luke Skywalker's blue. And yes, these actually light up.
To commemorate the latest of the new Star Wars films, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Kotobukiya also has chopsticks modeled on Kylo Ren’s unique crossguard lightsaber. (This model does not light up.)
These are perfect souvenirs for any young padawans in your life or the jedi knight inside yourself! Be sure to stop by Kotobukiya's Akihabara store to check out their selection of Star Wars goods as well as the rest of their awesome merchandise.
Note: the silicone cups and dividers featured here are only available for purchase in Japan, so be sure to stop by Kotobukiya's Akihabara store during your trip to Japan!
