Enjoy Mt. Fuji and Fall Colors during the Fuji Kawaguchiko Autumn Leaves Festival
Kawaguchiko in Yamanashi Prefecture is one of Japan's must-see spots for fall leaves. Not only is the color of the foliage superb, the image of those leaves framing Mt. Fuji in the distance gives the scenery added grandeur. If you're looking for some fall scenery that will really make you feel like you've come to Japan, then this is it.
★ Momiji Corridor
Fuji Kawaguchiko Autumn Leaves Festival is a great time to enjoy the sights. This year, the festival is being held from November 1st to the 23rd. During this time, you can enjoy the momiji kairou, or the Momiji Corridor.
To get there, take the Retro Bus from Kawaguchiko Station to the bus stop for Itchiku Kubota Art Museum. Your destination is only a brief walk from the bus stop.
Dressed in shades of red, yellow, and orange, these magnificent trees stretch on for around 2km (~1.2 miles).
There are virtually endless photo spots waiting here. Just look at the gorgeous gradation of these leaves.
You're bound to meet autumn lovers from all over Japan as well as abroad when you visit.
★ Kawaguchiko after dark
While visiting during the day is highly recommended, you really can't beat the illuminations in the evening.
The lights go on at sunset (usually around 4:30pm) and stay lit until 10pm.
To those of you staying in the area and can linger in the evening, don't miss the souvenirs or tasty foods on sale at the yatai stalls. There are also events on the weekend.
★Momiji Tunnel
The momiji tunnel is another spot you should stop by when you're in the area. Take the bus from the festival area to the stop called Kawaguchiko Natural Living Center. The tunnel is about a 15 minute walk from the stop.
Since there are no illumination events held in this location, it's best to go during the day and take some amazing photos.
