We visited some popular stores at AEON MALL
AEON MALL is a large chain of shopping malls all over Japan. Each mall houses comprehensive supermarket, specialty shops, food courts, etc. For the locals, an AEON MALL is a place to spend the weekends with their families. A surprising number of non-Japanese people use AEON MALL too. But what kind of stores are most popular?

This time, we visited AEON MALL Makuhari New City in Chiba Prefecture. It takes about 30 minutes by train from Tokyo Station, with the nearest station being Kaihimmakuhari Station on the Keiyo Line. This district also accommodates foreign tourists visiting Makuhari Messe or Tokyo Disney Resort.
It takes about 20 minutes on foot from the station to AEON MALL Makuhari New City, so it’s probably better to take a public bus.
This is AEON MALL Makuhari New City. It’s so big that you cannot see the entire site in this picture. It’s the third-largest AEON MALL in Japan.
The AEON MALL Makuhari New City can be broadly divided into 4 large malls. The Grand Mall houses premises such as supermarket, specialty shops, and movie theaters. The Pet Mall handles pet-related products. The Family Mall is a perfect place for families with children. The Active Mall is a home to a futsal park and Nojima, which is a mass merchandiser of home appliances.
The four malls are all three stories, holding over 300 stores.

Beauty comes from inside using FANCL products
The FANCL store is known for non-additive cosmetics, health foods, and supplements. Manufactured in Japan, its products have a safe, secure image and are also popular with foreign tourists.
The photo below shows some items popular with Chinese tourists. In the middle is a mild cleansing oil that has become staple among the Japanese as well. As health-consciousness grows, so too do sales of health supplements for various ages and genders (pictured at left below) and the HTC® collagen DX series (pictured at right below), which are often bought together by Chinese people seeking both internal and external beauty.

JINS eyeglass stores have also opened in China, Taiwan, and the United States. In addition to standard glasses, JINS stocks glasses that emphasize functionality, such as PC glasses designed to cut blue light and glasses to reduce exposure to pollen. Since all glasses are priced from 3,900 yen including the lens, you can easily purchase different sets for various purposes.
These are JINS MOISTURE moisturizing glasses with water tanks attached. Water is stored in the tanks attached to each side of the lens frame, which moisturizes the eye area when evaporated through the tiny holes in the tanks. By matching the colors of the frame and tanks, the glasses appear natural like all other glasses.

Spend some relaxing time with animals at Moff Animal Cafe
Moff Animal Cafe is a remarkable store that just opened in December 2016. Cafes where visitors can interact with small animals such as owls, hedgehogs, baby chicks, and meerkats have been extremely popular from the outset. The secret of its success is the unlimited drink bar priced at only 1,200 yen.
You can also have an owl sit on your arm. Sitting there, the owl feels unexpectedly heavy.
There are lots of cute little animals to spend some relaxing time with!

This joint store combines the specialty toy store Toys R Us, which carries toys and other items for children, with the Babies R Us specialty store for baby goods. With an abundance of fun products including toys, baby goods, kids’ items, and family supplies under one roof, this store makes one-stop shopping possible.
This store is well-stocked with various famous brands of toys such as LEGO®, Anpanman, Tomica and so on. We asked which items are most popular among foreign tourists.

Whether you’re a kid or an adult, if you like Sanrio products, you should definitely stop by this store.
Due to the back-to-school season approaching, at the moment the store stocks a full range of items such as stationery, bags, water bottles, etc.

AEON MALL Makuhari New City is home to many other great stores recommended for overseas tourists.
Because AEON MALL Makuhari New City is very large, tourists are encouraged to use the information center in case of any trouble. Foreign tourists often ask the location of bus stops or the best way to get to their hotels. For peace of mind, English assistance is always available, with Chinese and Korean language support also available on some days of the week.
You will see the “concierge” robot Pepper in and around various stores. Pepper can tell you about shops and bus information in English as well.
There are also AEON Bank ATMs which can provide foreign currency exchange and support China UnionPay cards.
You might think of AEON MALL Makuhari New City as a shopping area for Japanese people, but there are more than 50 tax-free shops in the mall, and unlike department stores, tax-exemption procedures can be handled at each store, creating an environment where foreign tourists can shop with ease.
