Shibuya Scramble Square: The New Shopping Hub With a Spectacular View Over the Shibuya Scramble Crossing

A new landmark was born in the ever-changing city of Shibuya, Tokyo. Built right above Shibuya Station, the Shibuya Scramble Square opened on November 1st, 2019. With an amazing view of the world-famous crossing, it also hosts enough shops and restaurants to keep you busy for a whole day. Here's a report from our visit to the latest hot spot in Shibuya.

B2F - 1F : Foods | Souvenirs That Are Only Sold Here!

From the basement second floor to the first floor is a delicious paradise of about 60 stores featuring exclusively food. Many items are only available for a limited time. Starting from the lowest floor, we were immediately drawn to Kiyoken with their burger box, and Nihonbashi Tendon Kaneko Hannosuke with their "ebiten oshizushi" sushi.

On the first floor, Mori Yoshida Paris opened their first store in Japan and it's getting a lot of attention. Their Mont Blanc covered in a drape-like cream looked exceptionally delicious. Everywhere we turned was filled with deliciousness. Jiichiro's limited edition butter cake, a confectionery set from Peche Mignon -Reda, inviting stick pies by coneri... the list goes on.

CONVERSE TOKYO and Nike on the 2nd floor both carry unique items. A the time of our visit, CONVERSE was selling a special Tokyo design of their STAR 100. Over at Nike we found a neat Shibuya t-shirt.

10F - 14F Life Style Goods | Fashionable and Cute!

Up on the 10th floor is the lifestyle store Tokyu Hands. They have lots of cute miscellaneous goods and a whole stock of daily necessities. ITOEN, famous for their bottled tea, has a store on this floor called Ocha room ashita ITOEN. Here you can pick up some of their matcha tea, fruit tea, and other Japanese teas. They also have matching food and desserts to go with your beverage.

Continuing our journey to the top, the 11th floor hosts Nara's well-known brand Nakagawa Masachichi Shoten. With their concept of "introducing Japanese crafts" the shop showcases more than 4,000 products created by over 800 artists all throughout Japan. The spacious interior is designed after the streets of Nara.

We even saw a few crafts with a Shibuya motif that can only be found here at the Shibuya Scramble Square. Like this adorable Hachiko decoration!

45F - Rooftop SHIBUYA SKY | Stand at the Top of the City

Of course, the highlight here is the 45th floor. At the top is the largest rooftop observatory in Japan. Said to be the highest view of Shibuya at 230 meters, it offers a bird's eye view of the Shibuya Scramble Crossing below. From here you'll also get a 360° panorama of Tokyo that includes both the Tokyo Tower and Tokyo Skytree. A ticket is required but it's well worth the admission.

The observatory is open until 11:00 p.m. so after a full day of shopping and eating you can still head up and see the city lit up at night. The indoor observation corridor SKY GALLERY is also recommended. On the same floor are cafes, bars, souvenir shops and photo services, all with a panoramic view of the city. Definitely give yourself some time to fully enjoy the place.
